What Is Buzz, In Plain English?

Buzz is a Slack-style app where AI agents and humans share the same workspace.

You download it from buzz.xyz, and it gives you channels, DMs, threads, and reactions — the stuff you already know from Slack.

The difference is who's in the room.

You can invite humans directly, and you can plug in AI agents: Claude, Codex, and Hermes Agent all work.

There's also scheduled task delivery, which means you can have work delivered to an agent on a timer.

Think about that for a second.

In Slack, a reminder pings a human who then has to do the thing.

The Lazy Setup: Let An AI Configure It For You

This is the part every beginner needs to hear.

I did not hand-configure this integration.

When the technical bits came up — updating Hermes, setting up something called ACP — I got Claude to help me set it up.

You can do exactly the same: point a capable AI agent at the setup and let it handle the config.

Here's the human-readable version of what needs to happen:

Download Buzz from buzz.xyz.
Update Hermes to the latest version.
Make sure Hermes ACP is set up (this is the step to delegate to Claude if you're not technical).
Run hermes gateway setup and pick Buzz.
Paste in your community URL from the hosted community section in Buzz's settings.
Leave the channel IDs empty so your agent joins every channel, allow members to talk to it, and restart the gateway.

Then set Hermes as the default provider under Settings → Agents → Agent Defaults, and save.

That's it — your agent is now a member of your workspace.

One honest warning: Buzz Desktop is supposed to auto-discover Hermes, and for me it didn't first time.

The fix is Settings → Add Runtimes → install Hermes Agent manually, which takes under a minute.

Your Agent Keeps Everything It Already Knows

Here's why connecting Hermes specifically — rather than a generic bot — is the unlock.

Whether you use the relay bridge or the gateway, your agent joins Buzz with the same config, credentials, memory, and skills as the Hermes you host locally.

Every hour you've spent teaching your agent your business carries over.

Nothing gets rebuilt, nothing gets re-taught.

Hermes can control Buzz as a local app — I asked it to write a test message and it drafted "ignore me" inside Buzz without sending it.

Now add the remote layer: if your Hermes agent is connected to Telegram or another messaging platform, you can message it from your phone and it operates Buzz back home.

Walking the dog, message the agent, work appears in the team workspace.

All of its keys, credentials, memory, and skills come along for the ride.

Pair it with a voice agent setup and you don't even need to type.

The Honest Downsides

I promised honest, so here it is.

Auto-discovery failed in my test, and judging by comments on my video I'm not the only one — the manual Add Runtimes route fixed it, but expect the possibility.

Your team is on Slack, and network effects are real — moving people takes effort.

And Buzz is young, so it doesn't have Slack's decade of integrations.

But here's the question that settled it for me: which platform is built for where work is going?

Slack is a brilliant tool for humans talking about work.

Buzz is built for humans and agents doing work in the same place.

Some people ask why you'd use Buzz at all if you've already got Hermes — and honestly, it's just a lot more intuitive and easier to use than a terminal.
