Don't use one model for everything.
Match the model to the job.
For chat and short tasks
Gemma 4 (local) or any cloud free tier.
Fast, light, plenty for everyday chat.
For agent tasks (web search, browser, tool use)
DeepSeek (local) or Kim K2.5 (cloud).
Designed for agentic workflows.
For code generation
Qwen 3.6.
Strongest code output of the small models.
For sub-agents in multi-agent setups
Nvidia Nemotron 3 Nano Omni.

Goal: every morning, get a summary of overnight AI news.
Setup:

- Memory ON.
- Schedule a daily 7am task.

Goal: feed a keyword, get back a content brief with research.
Setup:

Hermes searches, drafts the brief, saves to a file.
Workflow 3 — Email triage
Goal: agent reads inbox, flags urgent items.
Setup:
- Email skill ON.
- Memory ON.
Hermes reads emails, summarises by priority, drafts replies.

Switching Models Quickly
Hermes lets you switch models without restarting.
In your config, you can have multiple providers:
- Ollama (local).
- DeepSeek free tier (cloud).
- OpenRouter (cloud).
Switch between them per agent or per chat.
This is one of Hermes' biggest advantages — flexibility.
Connecting Channels
Once Hermes runs, connect it to channels:
- WhatsApp.
- Discord.
- Telegram.
- Slack.
Now your agent answers messages on real platforms.

Multi-Agent Setups
Once one Hermes agent runs, you can run multiple.
Example team:
- Research agent (DeepSeek).

Common Post-Install Mistakes
1. Trying to do everything with one model.
Use different models for different tasks.
That's why Hermes supports multiple providers.
2. Adding 50 skills on day one.
Start with 5-10 essential skills.
Add as you find specific needs.
3. Skipping channel integration.
The biggest unlock is letting Hermes answer messages on real platforms.
Connect at least one channel.
4. Not setting up scheduled tasks.
Hermes' background work is where the time saving compounds.
Schedule daily/hourly tasks.
Daily Reality
What a normal day looks like with Hermes running:
- 7am — daily news summary lands in my Slack.
- 9am — content brief for today's keyword arrives.
- Throughout day — Hermes answers Telegram on my behalf.
- 6pm — Hermes summarises the day's emails.
Most of this happens in the background.
I check in, review, edit if needed.
Scaling Up
Once basic Hermes works:
1. Add more skills.
Pick one or two from the marketplace each week.
2. Add another agent.
Specialise — e.g. a research agent vs a writer agent.
3. Add more channels.
Telegram first, then Discord/WhatsApp/Slack.
4. Add scheduled tasks.
Daily, weekly, hourly — whatever fits.
By month 3, Hermes is doing genuine work for you in the background.
What Hermes Doesn't Do
Be honest.
- Voice interaction is rough.
- Some niche skills require manual install.
- Heavy creative tasks still need human judgment.
For 80% of work, Hermes is enough.
For the other 20%, augment with humans or other tools.
