Meta Muse is Meta's personal AI agent — launched on 8 September 2026, it gets its own secure cloud computer, runs on the Muse Spark 1.3 model, takes instructions in its app or inside WhatsApp, and keeps working after you close the app — with a free tier of 100 million tokens a week and, for now, a US-only rollout.

That sentence is the whole product. The rest of this page covers how it works, what it costs, who can get it, how safe it is and how it stacks up against the other agents.

One honest caveat first. I explained the launch in two videos on 10 and 11 September 2026, but I haven't hands-on tested Muse yet. So everything below is what Meta announced, what launch coverage reported, and what Nate Herk found when he tested it for about a day.

Meta Muse: What Meta Actually Launched

Meta Muse was built under Meta's chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang. Meta's pitch for it is "personal superintelligence", which in plain English means an agent that does the work instead of just chatting about it.

That difference matters. A chatbot tells you how to dispute a bill. An agent is supposed to go and dispute it for you, then report back.

Meta shipped three things together on 8 September:

It landed in a crowded month. OpenAI has its own agent, which I cover in my OpenAI Dots breakdown, and xAI has Grok Bot. All three are chasing the same idea: an assistant that keeps going when you stop typing.

How Meta Muse Works

The Muse Secure VM

Every Meta Muse user gets a Muse Secure VM. Meta says it is a dedicated, isolated cloud machine, so your agent isn't sharing a workspace with anyone else's.

The practical upside is persistence. You hand over a task, close the app, and the work carries on in the cloud. You don't need to keep a laptop awake or a browser tab open.

Muse Spark 1.3

The thinking is done by Muse Spark 1.3. Per launch coverage, developers can also reach the model through an API at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. Most people will never touch that. They'll just use the app.

The app and WhatsApp

You talk to Meta Muse in two places: the Muse app, or inside WhatsApp. The WhatsApp route is the clever part. You message your agent the same way you message a friend, in an app you already open every day.

If you want help working out where an agent like this fits in your business, that is what we do inside the AI Profit Boardroom. More than 3,000 members are building with AI agents in there right now.

What Meta Muse Can Do

Meta's launch examples for Meta Muse are everyday chores, not developer demos. According to Meta, it can:

To do any of that, it needs access to your accounts. The connectors at launch are Gmail, Google Calendar, OpenTable, Facebook, Instagram, Peloton and Plaid. Meta has announced that Shop Pay and 1Password support are coming.

Look at that list again. This is a consumer product aimed at normal life: dinner bookings, shopping, inboxes, bank data. It is not pitched at people who live in a code editor.

Meta Muse Pricing

Meta Muse has three tiers at the time of writing. The free one is generous enough that most people can try it properly before paying anything.

PlanPriceToken allowance
Free$0Up to 100 million tokens a week
Mid tier$20 a month500 million tokens
Top tier$100 a month3 billion tokens

Tokens are the unit the model reads and writes in. An agent that runs in the background burns through far more of them than a chat does, which is why the allowances are measured in millions and billions.

Meta also says there is no advertising in Muse, and that your conversations are not shared with its ad systems.

Meta Muse Availability

Meta Muse is US only for now, and only for adults aged 18 and over. Inside the US it runs on iOS, Android and the web.

Meta says support for its AI glasses is coming later in 2026. It has not given dates for other countries, so if you are outside the US, you are waiting.

Is Meta Muse Safe? Safety and Privacy

Safety is the biggest question around Meta Muse, because an agent that can log in, book and pay is a very different risk from a chatbot. Here is what Meta says it has built:

Meta has also said a Confidential VM mode is planned for late 2026, with full encryption and a key that you hold.

Those are sensible controls on paper. The concern you will see from reviewers and commenters is not about the features. It is about the company. Meta Muse asks you to connect your email, calendar, social accounts and bank data to a business with a long and well-documented history of privacy controversies. Some people will be comfortable with that trade. Some won't. Both positions are reasonable, and it is your call.

What Meta Muse Is Like to Use

Since I haven't used Meta Muse myself, the hands-on detail here comes from Nate Herk, an AI automation YouTuber who tested Muse and Dots for about a day each and published the results on 1 October 2026.

Nate Herk found that Muse has the nicer, more beginner-friendly interface of the two. He describes one main thread with side chats branching off it, plus a set of tabs:

He also points to a "heartbeat" that runs every 30 minutes and proactively checks things like your docs and email, a customisable feed, and a native WhatsApp connector.

Herk was using the free tier throughout. He reports that Muse reached number one in the Apple App Store, and he would recommend it to non-technical people. He personally would pick Dots, because he already lives in Codex, and he rates the model behind Dots as stronger for coding.

My Take on Meta Muse

I'll be straight with you about Meta Muse. I covered the launch, I read what Meta published, and as of 30 September 2026 I still hadn't had a chance to test it. So I won't give you a verdict on how well it performs.

What I can give you is the three tips from my explainer, because they apply to any agent with this much access:

  1. Start small. Give it one low-stakes job first. A grocery list, not your bank account.
  2. Check permissions app by app. Connect only what the task needs.
  3. Use approvals. Keep a human yes in front of anything that spends money or sends a message.

My daily drivers remain Hermes and Claude. That is what my business runs on, and you can see the full setup in the Agent OS guide. When I do test Muse properly, I'll judge it the same way I judge every agent, which is what Goldie Bench is for.

How Meta Muse Compares

Meta Muse is one of several agents fighting for the same job. Each comparison has its own page:

ComparisonWhat it comes down to
Meta Muse vs ChatGPT DotsNate Herk found Muse friendlier and Dots rushed and buggy, but rated the Dots model stronger, especially for coding.
Meta Muse vs Grok BotHerk expects Muse, Dots and Grok Bot to converge on similar features.
Meta Muse vs ClaudeA new consumer agent against one of the tools I work in every day.
Meta Muse vs HermesMeta's hosted agent against the agent I run my own business on.
Meta Muse vs Gemini SparkMeta's agent set against Google's.

Meta Muse FAQ

What is Meta Muse?

Meta Muse is a personal AI agent from Meta, launched on 8 September 2026. Each user gets a dedicated cloud machine called the Muse Secure VM, powered by the Muse Spark 1.3 model. You give it tasks in the Muse app or in WhatsApp, and it keeps working after you close the app.

Is Meta Muse free?

Yes, there is a free tier of up to 100 million tokens a week. Paid plans are $20 a month for 500 million tokens and $100 a month for 3 billion tokens. Meta says there is no advertising on any tier.

Is Meta Muse available outside the US?

No. Meta Muse is currently limited to adults aged 18 and over in the United States, on iOS, Android and the web. Meta has not announced dates for other countries.

Where to Go From Here

Meta Muse is a serious launch: a free, always-on agent with its own cloud computer, sitting inside an app billions of people already use. If you are in the US, try the free tier on something small and keep approvals switched on.
