Hermes Notion now works through Connectors, the new feature in Hermes Agent v0.22.0: you ask for Notion, sign in once in your browser, and the agent can read and write your pages and databases in the same turn. No API key, no config file, and you don't even need a Nous account to start.

That's the new way. There are also two older routes people still search for: the Notion MCP server and the Notion skill. This guide covers all three, what changed in v0.22, and which one to use.
What's new for Hermes Notion in v0.22
Hermes Agent v0.22.0, called the Threshold Release, went live on GitHub on 14 October 2026. The headline feature for Notion users is Connectors. Per the release notes, the agent can now act in hosted apps such as Notion and Linear through the Nous tool gateway.
Here's the short version of what that means:
- Sign in once. You ask for an app, approve it in your browser, and the tools are usable in the same turn. No restart.
- No account needed. The first time you use an app, Hermes creates a free connectors-only identity for you.
- Several accounts per app. Connect a work Notion and a home Notion side by side, each with its own name.
- One place to manage it. The desktop app has a new Connectors page that lists hosted apps and your MCP servers together. It replaces the old MCP tab.
- Files both ways. The notes say connector tools can send your local files as attachments and save the files they return.
I run Hermes every day inside my Agent OS with a profile per model, and the big win here is speed. Before, hooking up an app meant tokens, config edits and a restart. Now it's one sentence and a browser click. I walked through Connectors in my v0.22 video too.
If you want my full Hermes setup, the AI Profit Boardroom ($69/mo) gives you the Agent OS, a 30-day AI agent roadmap, daily tutorials as new tools drop, 4 coaching calls a week and the prompt library. 3,400+ members are in there.
How to connect Notion to Hermes with Connectors
You don't hunt for a settings screen. You just ask.
- Ask for it in chat. Something like "connect my Notion" works. The agent calls its manage_connections tool, which lists connectors and starts the sign-in.
- Approve in the browser. In the desktop app a card appears and waits until Notion is connected or skipped. In the CLI, TUI or a messaging app you get a connect link to open.
- Keep working. Once you approve, the Notion tools are live in that same turn. Ask for the page summary, the database update or the new doc straight away.
Prefer the terminal? The CLI has a command for it: hermes connectors connect notion. It prints the link, then waits until the account is connected or the deadline passes. Ctrl-C stops waiting.
One thing worth knowing about how this works under the hood. Connector tools are never installed locally. They live on the Nous tool gateway, and Hermes finds them through tool_search when a task needs them. If the agent tries a Notion tool before you've linked an account, it gets a CONNECTION_REQUIRED error and offers the sign-in instead.

The free guest identity, explained
Connectors need a Nous identity. The clever part is you don't have to make one.
The docs say the first manage_connections action, or connecting an app from the desktop Connectors page, creates a free Nous identity for you on every surface. Just opening the Connectors page creates nothing. Until an identity exists, that page shows hosted apps from the Nous Portal's public catalog, which needs no sign-in.
This identity doesn't change your model provider. You keep running whatever model you already use. It's there for connectors and managed tools.
Don't want it? Two switches in config.yaml, both from the release notes:
- nous.guest: false turns guest identities off.
- tools.connectors.enabled: false turns connectors off completely, so Hermes behaves as if the feature didn't exist.

Running a work Notion and a home Notion
Lots of people have two Notion workspaces. v0.22 handles that properly.
Each account gets a name of 1 to 32 characters, using lowercase letters, digits or dashes. The rules from the docs are simple and safe:
- No default account. When two named accounts are active, the agent has to say which one it means. Every Notion tool gains a connector_alias field, and a call that leaves it out fails with a list of valid names.
- The agent names new accounts. It picks a name from what you said and tells you, so you can rename it any time.
- Reconnect deletes nothing. Fixing a broken account replaces it under the same name and keeps the old one as retired.
- Only you remove accounts. The agent never disconnects one.
To add a second account from the terminal, use hermes connectors connect notion --alias work. A new name adds another account rather than replacing the first.
Managing it all from the Connectors page
The desktop Connectors page is where most people will live. Hosted apps like Notion sit in the same list as your MCP servers, with the same setup card in the TUI and CLI. I broke the page down in my guide to the Hermes Connectors page.
Outside the desktop app you've got three other spots:
- TUI: /connectors opens an account list. Arrow keys to select, r to rename, a to add another account, c to reconnect, x to remove.
- CLI: hermes connectors list, hermes connectors accounts notion, and hermes connectors disconnect notion --alias home.
- Nous Portal: the web portal also manages connector accounts.
Notion MCP vs skill vs connector
Searching "hermes notion mcp", "hermes notion skill" or "hermes notion api"? All three routes are real. Here's how they stack up.
| Route | How you set it up | Auth | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connector (new in v0.22) | Ask in chat, or hermes connectors connect notion | Browser sign-in through the Nous tool gateway | Fastest start, several accounts, no keys |
| Notion MCP server | hermes mcp install notion, or ask "add the Notion MCP" | OAuth with Notion's hosted server | Keeping the connection direct to Notion |
| Notion skill | Bundled by default, add NOTION_API_KEY to the .env file | Notion integration token | Scripted API work, Workers, the ntn CLI |
The Notion MCP server
Notion sits in the Hermes MCP catalog, the list of Nous-approved servers. Per the catalog manifest, it points at Notion's official hosted server at mcp.notion.com, uses OAuth, and covers pages and databases from your workspace. Nothing runs locally.
Install it with hermes mcp install notion, or open the picker with hermes mcp. On first connection Hermes sends you to Notion to approve access. If it doesn't, run hermes mcp login notion. The manifest says to restart the session afterwards so the tools load.
Bonus: in the desktop app, mentioning Notion or pasting a notion.so link in your draft can surface a one-click "Add Notion" pill.
The Notion skill in the skills hub
Hermes also ships a bundled notion skill, version 2.0.0, installed by default. It talks to the Notion API two ways: Notion's official ntn CLI on macOS and Linux, or plain HTTP calls that work everywhere, including Windows.
Setup per the skill docs: create an integration at notion.so/my-integrations, save the key as NOTION_API_KEY in your Hermes .env file, then share each page or database with that integration. Skip that last step and the API returns a 404 even though the page exists.
Which route should you pick?
For most people, the connector. It's the quickest, it handles multiple accounts cleanly and there's no key sitting in a file.
Pick the MCP server if you'd rather the OAuth link go straight to Notion's own server. Pick the skill if you're building scripted jobs or Notion Workers and want full API control.
Running Linear too? The same Connectors flow works there, and I cover the issue-triage angle in Hermes Linear. And if your agent needs to log into websites as well, read Hermes 1Password for the new password-manager sign-in.
Choosing which model drives these Notion jobs matters as much as the wiring. Check Goldie Bench for how models handle real agent work, and the Agent OS guide for how I organise profiles around it. Want a second pair of eyes on your setup? Book a free AI strategy session.
FAQ
Is there a Hermes Notion API integration?
Yes. The bundled notion skill uses the Notion API directly with your integration token. The connector and MCP routes reach Notion too, without you handling an API key.
Do I need a Nous account to connect Notion?
No. If you don't have one, Hermes creates a free connectors-only identity the first time you connect an app. It doesn't change your model provider.
Can the agent disconnect my Notion account?
No. The docs say removing an account is yours, one at a time. The model tool cannot disconnect an account.
Does the Notion skill work on Windows?
Yes. The ntn CLI is macOS and Linux only per the skill docs, but the HTTP fallback works everywhere, including Windows.
